Mr. Billy Ray Smith, 57 of Lumberton transitioned into eternal rest on September 4, 2017 at Southeastern Health.

Mr. Billy Ray Smith was born on June 19, 1960 in Lumberton, North Carolina to the late Lenora and Hennon Coolidge Smith, Sr.

Billy Ray received his education from the Public Schools of Robeson County and US Job Corps and received his GED and made his Mom and Dad so proud of him.

Billy Ray became a member of First Baptist Church at an early age under the leadership of the late Dr. E. B. Turner, he also attended several different churches with family and friends but First Baptist was his home.

Billy Ray's career included working at Wilson's Ice Cream Company until he decided to take a break  and eat Ice Cream and was caught by the owner and he walked off the job with no problem, he ventured on ended up at the pool room helping Morris Whitted gather all the "money" from the pool tables and anything else that needed to be done.  Billy Ray had a passion for making others laugh and smile and he started dropping gifts off at the court house and would tell them he picked it up at the store...well you know Billy Ray.  Billy Ray ventured on and gained all kinds of friends both older and younger but he didn't care because if he met you, he made you feel like family.  Billy Ray was loveable, caring and could sometimes get on your nerves but he didn't care because he had the charm and charisma that would make you love him even more.  Billy Ray was protective of all of his neighbors... The Dockery's, McComb's, Bracey's, Floyd's, William's, Thompson's, McRae's , Vample's, McCall's and so many others...

He was preceded in death by his loving Mother, his Father, His Brothers, Edward Eugene, Hennon Coolidge, Jr. and Tony Smith, one Sister Gloria Gilchrist, one nephew Kenneth Thompson.  Left to Cherish his memory: One Brother, Richard (Vernessa) Smith, Three Sisters, Doris Smith of Greenville, NC, Barbara Smith, Fayetteville, NC and Jacqueline Smith of Lumberton, NC, one Uncle, Robert (Edwina) Lucas of Charlotte, North Carolina, Two aunts Rose and Queen Lucas of Wilmington, North Carolina, four special nieces: Raven, Jala, Rachel, Dominique Six special Nephews: Kavin,Richard,Tory, Wanya,Kenyatta, Craig, Chris, Three great nieces:  Kristen, Dezhae,Canny, Three great nephews:  Jordan, KJ, JaKhari,  Two God Sons Jonathan and Rayquan Two adopted sisters Janice (Ronald) Williams and Shana Dockery of Lumberton NC, Three special cousins:  Irene Gearld, Nettie Lewis, Nancy Blue of Lumberton, North Carolina, Two Special little brothers: Daren and Torrence Williams and  a host of other relatives and special friends.
