James DeBerry was born on February 8, 1937 in Hertford County to the Late James DeBerry and Maud Kelly. He gained his wings on July 10, 2019.
During his earlier years he attended school at JH Hayeswood in Lumberton, NC. Upon turning 18, he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he did a short tour of duty. He decided to relocate to New York, where he received his GED from The Boys and Girls School in Brooklyn NY.
He resided in New York for over 45 years, where he was employed by The Industrial Electrical Company in Flushing NY. After his retirement in 2001, he decided to move back home to Lumberton, NC. Upon returning, he met and married the woman who was the wind beneath his wings: Vicki Savannah DeBerry.
James was a very private, loving kind hearted person, who was known for his ability to dress. He was enjoyed chess, golf and dancing. He will be missed tremendously.
He was an active member of Freedom Full Gospel serving in the capacity of Senior Usher and Elder.
He was proceeded in death by his father James DeBerry and Mother Maud Kelly, One sister Carolyn “Carrie” Pope; a daughter: JD & his son: Sebastian & Jeffrey Kearse.
He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife: Vicki DeBerry of Lumber Bridge, NC; Sons: Ricky DeBerry of Fayetteville, NC, Lyord Pike DeBerry (Roslind) of Hayward, CA, James DeBerry III (Lisa) & Troy DeBerry of Edenton, NC and Kelly Donnell Kearse-DeBerry (Patrice) of Brooklyn, NY; Daughter: Tammy Caines (Keith) of Edenton, NC; Step-Daughters: Tonya Barnes of Chapel Hill, NC and Charlette Imbufe (Banabas) of Fayetteville, NC; Sister: Shirley King of Lumberton, NC; Grandkids: Tiffany, Rashaun, Sarah, Jahmesha, Shamel, Cykeya, Carmisa, Tyrek, Ella, Taylor and Ryan; Great-Grands: Malik, Amani, Destiny, Donny, Dymaire, Billy Jr., Zaire and Laila. A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
