Ms. Penny Grue Thorpe

     Ms. Penny Grue Thorpe Of Greenville, SC formerly of Fairmont, NC passed away Monday, Aug. 8, 2016.

     Mrs. Penny Grue Thorpe was born to James and Clara Chavis on August 01, 1939, in Fairmont, North Carolina. She received her education in the Robeson County School System. Upon graduating from high school, Penny later moved to New Haven, Connecticut and, shortly thereafter, to Springfield, Massachusetts. Her time residing in the northeastern region brought her four children, an Associate’s Degree and her career at Digital Incorporation.

     She later relocated to Greenville, South Carolina, where she advanced in her career to become a manager, which is the position she held until her retirement from Digital. While in Greenville, Penny became a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.

     Penny was called home on August 08, 2016, at 77 years young. She was a lover of life and a joy to encounter. She touched the hearts of many with her cheerful persona and witty conversations.

     In addition to her late parents, Penny was preceded in death by her brother, Bobby Chavis, her sister, Elsey Chavis, and her husband, Johnny Thorpe.

     She leaves to cherish her memories, four children, Pamela Chavis, Thomas Funderburk, Khalil Thorpe, and Jonathan Thorpe, all of Greenville, SC; three sisters, Gloria (Harry) Perkins of New Haven, CT, Prevelia Chavis of Baltimore, MD, and Alice Powell of Fairmont, NC; seven grandchildren, Ramene Jeffrey, Jonathan Thorpe, Radonya (Jehmar) Smalls, Travis Harris, Shakedria Ellison, Khadeeja Thorpe, and Tristan Thorpe; two god-children, Reggie Landrum and Vickie Jones; five great-grandchildren, Nyzjayla, D’Ahmir, Jasha Niyonna, Julius and Kassidy and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
