Ms. Agnes J. Ellerby

     Ms. Agnes “Coot” Jones Ellerby was born August 13, 1926 in Fairmont, NC to the late Ernest Jones and Emma (Foster) Townsend. She gained her wings surrounded by her love ones September 14, 2016 at Southeastern Health in Lumberton, NC when she joined her parents and brothers, and sisters in glory.

     Agnes was educated in Robeson County at the Old John Lewis School. She worked hard on the farm to provide for her children. She was also employed by the textile industry for many years and then later retired. She joined First Baptist Church in Fairmont, NC at an early age, where she was a faithful worker until her health failed. She served on the Usher Board for 50 years. She was a faithful member of the United Order of Tent Sisters. She loved to usher in the church, cook, and feed people.

     Agnes was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and a sister, three sons, Carvin Jones, Woodrow Jones, and Levon Townsend, one daughter, Gloria Jean Townsend.

     She leaves to cherish her precious memories, a son, Edward Ellerby Jr., five daughters, Rev. Vista Jones, Judy McKinnis, Minister Connie (Harry) Roberts, Priscilla Ellerby, and Dr. Sharon (Thomas) Ellerby, all of Fairmont, NC; twenty-seven grandchildren, sixty-six great grands, sixteen great-great grands, six sister-in-law's, two brother-in-law's and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
