Ms. Adell George McCallum

     Ms. Adell George McCallum, 78 of Fairmont transitioned Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at her residence.

     Adell McCallum was born to Eva and Robert George on June 30, 1938 in Proctorville North Carolina.  In 1957 she married the handsome and talented John Jr. McCallum of Rowland North Carolina. Together they reared six beautiful children, Nellie Mae, Willie John, Clairdell, Diane, Glen and Bobby.  Desiring to make a better life for their family, they relocated to New York City in 1961. 

     Adell and John were known for their generous spirit.  Over the years their home and hearts were always open to many family members in times of need, even becoming foster parents to her sister Gertrude’s children Beverly, Lisa and Belinda as well as her sister Mary’s children Chris, Tish E. George-Smith, James Earl, Anthony and Vanessa.  Over the years they were able to help many other family members get a taste of “Big City” living in New York as they transitioned from the “South to the North”.

     In the early 70’s many questions Adell wondered about all of her life were answered when she began to have personal study of the Bible with Jehovah’s Witnesses.  After becoming thoroughly convinced of the Bible’s promises, she dedicated her life to Jehovah God and got baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in March 1972.  Her love you God and neighbor compelled her to be zealous in sharing her faith and helping others in the community to discover how the Bible answers life’s big questions.  Her faith in God’s Kingdom and future promises it will bring helped her to cope with the death of their oldest son Willie John in 1983 and that of her beloved husband John Jr. in 2010. She is survived by three daughters and two sons, two loving sisters, Magnolia Cobb of Fayetteville North Carolina and Irene Taylor of Lumberton North Carolina, three brothers, Samuel George of Winston Salem, NC; Willie George and Danny Thomas George both of Lumberton, NC and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
